Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor connected to the school, the Grinton Award will enable one successful applicant to receive full funding for the entirety of their education at Worksop College, from Year 7 through to Year 13. ‘The arts in this instance will include, but is not limited to, music (instrumental and vocal), dance, drama, creative writing, painting, sculpture, graphic and craft arts, costume and fashion design, television, radio and film.

Applicants for the Grinton Award must currently be in Year 6 of a government-funded school, in order to enter the school in Year 7 in September 2020. The application will be means-tested and as such will follow the criteria used for bursary assessments, based on an understanding of a parent’s ‘net income’.

A fully-funded scholarship is the highest level of award and recognises an impressive candidate with a high level of competence. The applicant must show particular talent within the arts, demonstrated through a portfolio of work, their interpretation of a specified task and an informal interview. Applicants will be measured against the scholarship’s scoring matrix that is used internally across all scholarships to assess suitability.

A full fee scholarship means that all fees, including the opportunity to board, are met as part of the award, to ensure that the most suitable child, regardless of their financial background, can join our school.

The Grinton Award will run alongside the school’s scholarships programme open to any applicant and offering discounts on fees of up to 25% across Sport, Music, Academia and Art.

Dr John Price, Headmaster at Worksop College, said the school was committed to providing outstanding opportunities to all its students and that the introduction of the Grinton Award was an exciting development that opened up these opportunities to children showing particular talent within the arts.

He said: “Our generous scholarships and bursaries programme has been opening up opportunities to families for 125 years. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to offer this scholarship to one student and are incredibly grateful to the support and generosity our donor has shown to the college. Here at Worksop we are committed to nurturing the creative talent amongst our students and I would urge anyone who thinks that The College may be the place for their already considerable talent to flourish, to find out more about what we have to offer.

He added: “We want to hear from talented pupils who like the challenge of finding out about themselves through hard work, trying new things and adding to our School community.”
