Renowned contemporary artist Andrew James was chosen to create this significant piece. Based in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Andrew is highly sought after for his extraordinary ability to capture the likeness and energy of his subjects. His painterly approach, using bold, gestural oil strokes alongside finely modulated colour relationships, brings depth and vitality to his work. With prestigious commissions of public figures to his name, Andrew is celebrated by both the New English Art Club (NEAC) and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters (RP).

To ensure the portrait reflected more than just appearance, Andrew spent considerable time with Dr Price, gaining insight into his character and contributions to the college. This immersive approach allowed him to capture the essence of Dr Price’s leadership and personality.

During his time at Worksop College, Andrew also engaged with the school’s art scholars, offering them a rare opportunity to observe a professional artist at work. His visit provided invaluable inspiration, demonstrating the skill, dedication, and creative process involved in portrait painting.

Dr Price’s portrait now stands as a lasting tribute to his tenure, preserving his legacy for future generations of Worksopians.
