David Turner, Mg 57 - 61

You are warmly welcome to leave a message below, share your memories and celebrate the life of David Turner, who we sadly lost in 2023.

David Charles Turner sadly passed away at home in Nottingham on 02 December 2023.

David was an enthusiastic participant in the sporting and house life of the school, where he was head chorister and captain of the boxing and cricket teams. His connection to Worksop was strengthened by his father, who had himself been offered a scholarship following a family tragedy. In later years, David was a frequent attender of Old Worksopian dinners and reunions, and he was a contributor to efforts to record the history of the school. A eulogy was given at his funeral by his school-friend from Ranby House and Worksop, Bertie Mather.

After leaving Worksop, David studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art and Merton College, Oxford. His 38-year teaching career took him from Claremont Boys’ Comprehensive School and the Forest School, both in the City of Nottingham, to Knossington Grange Therapeutic School in Rutland. He is recalled fondly by generations of former students.

David will be remembered as a man of many interests, including a love of cricket which was nurtured at Worksop. In his recollections of the school, he said that he was ‘never happier than holding a cricket bat.’ He once appeared for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club 2nd XI, and he was captain of Ruddington Cricket Club for many years.
